A sentence or two gives reliable results. Very short input is genuinely ambiguous — a handful of words can be valid in several languages, and shared vocabulary between related languages like Spanish and Portuguese makes short samples unreliable. The confidence score reflects that uncertainty.
How clearly the text matches one language’s patterns rather than another’s. A low score usually means the sample is too short, contains a lot of names and numbers, or mixes languages. Treat anything below the halfway mark as a guess worth verifying rather than an answer.
