It can rescue a slightly soft one, not a genuinely blurred one. Sharpening increases contrast at edges to create the impression of detail — it does not recover detail the lens never captured. Motion blur and badly missed focus are beyond it; for those, AI upscaling gives better results.
Watch the edges. Bright halos around high-contrast boundaries, crunchy-looking texture and amplified noise all mean you have gone too far. Over-sharpening is more damaging to a photo than leaving it slightly soft, and it is very obvious to anyone looking at the image at full size.
After. Resizing softens an image, so sharpening first means the softening undoes your work. The standard order is denoise, resize, then sharpen last for the final output size — sharpening is output-dependent, and what looks right at full resolution is too strong for a thumbnail.
Yes, Sharpen Image is completely free. No signup, no account, and no watermark on outputs. A Pro tier is available for 100 AI ops/day and larger file sizes.
Sharpen Image uploads your file over an encrypted connection to our own processing server, converts it, and returns the result. The file is deleted immediately after processing and is never used for anything else. It is not sent to any third party, and we keep no copies.
