It looks for divider pages — separator sheets placed between documents when batch scanning. Feed a stack of invoices through with a marker page between each, and one long PDF comes out; this finds those markers and cuts the file there, giving you one document per invoice.
Anything visually distinct and consistent — a blank coloured sheet, a page with a large printed marker, or a barcode separator if your workflow uses them. The key is that dividers look clearly different from your actual documents, so they are not confused with real content.
Then this cannot infer boundaries, since it has no way to tell where one document ends. Use Split by page count if the documents are a uniform length, or the standard PDF Splitter to set break points by hand. For future batches, inserting dividers turns a tedious job into an automatic one.
